BitTorrent Sync is my favorite sync tool
If I told you I am using BitTorrent, you would probably assume I am downloading pirated illegal content but your would be wrong. I have been testing BitTorrent Sync as an alternative to Dropbox and am really liking it. BitTorrent sync leverages all the power of its world renown bittorrent protocol to quickly sync files of any size between your devices without first uploading them to a central cloud service making this very attractive to security conscious IT users. <img src="https://ekiledjian2.
What is 802.11ad
It's like only yesterday we saw 802.11ac and now here I am writing about something called 802.11ad. 802.11ac is the next of kin in the long line of wireless WiFi standards and offers some clear advantages over is older brother (802.11n). Where ac is the natural evolution of improved WiFi technologies, 801.11ad may be revolutionary technology that truly disrupt what we can do wirelessly. 802.11ac uses the same 5GHz frequency popularized by high end 802.11n routers, 802.11ad kicks it up a notch on the 60GHz frequency which will lead to multi-gigabit wireless connections.

iPhone 5s will hit the market September 20
Although Apple hasn't publicly announced the iPhone 5s announcement event, we all expect it to take place at the Apple campus on September 10th. The next question is when will Apple make is available in the market and now we think it is September 20th. We now learn that T-Mobile has implemented a vacation blackout for its retail employees September 20th to September 22nd. Typically these blackouts are implemented when the company expects a flood customer demand for the launch of hot new product.
Nokia's Lumia 1520 Phablet says hi
The 1520 is on the right. WP Central is reporting that Nokia will be entering the phablet (phone + tablet) market with a new model called the 1520 (to the right). This leaked device supposedly has a 6 inch display at full HD, we expect it to be powered by Qualcomm. No release date is being speculated but I doubt many consumers would line up for a Windows Phone phablet. WP Central
Asus RT-N66U is the best 801.11N WiFi router
Over the last 3 years, I have tested over 20 different 801.11n wireless routers at home. What you realize quickly is that marketing promises aren't always kept in a real world environment and that a "crappy" WiFi router can be the difference between a rewarding or upsetting gadget experience. <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/1a449f2c75.jpg" alt=""> I tested every name brand device (including the some that claimed to offer super powerful transmission chips). After everything was said and done, my device of choice is the Asus RT-N66U.
Rogers reducing MotoX Price by $20
Rogers had the MotoX on pre-order for $189 (with a 2 year contract) while BestBuy was pricing it at $169.99. Now rogers has decided to compete head on and is dropping the price by $20. The No Contract price is not being reduced ($549). Unfortunatly Rogers has an undetermined exclusive on the MotoX in Canada and there is still no sign of MotoMaker (customization of the MotoX) for Canadians. <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/37db4af864.jpg" alt=""> Rogers MotoX webpage is here.

Google Play Music coming to Canada
Google launch a new service at the 2013 Google IO conference called Google Play Music All Access. This is a streaming radio service (competing with Spotify and RDIO) which typically costs $US 9.99/month for all you can eat music. My industry contacts tell me that Google is putting the finishing touches (aka finalizing the music library agreements) on the service and expect it to launch early September. We expected it to cost the same $9.99 a month (same as the US price).

Is the Internet built for spying?
The one and only internet <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/b57c63d44e.jpg" alt=""> Edward Snowden is the (now famous) NSA leaker that exposed many of the US intelligence community's most secretive tools to the world. As expected, the public reacted (some would say over-reacted). There is one internet I believe the Internet will be recorded in history as one of the great evolutionary drivers. With the global availability of human knowledge and the ability to create brand new beneficial services (like the Scanadu home health monitor).
iPhone 5s rumor now in grey
A site called Sonny Dickson has published pictures of a possible new iPhone 5s color grey-ish. <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/b7667d3cb9.jpg" alt=""> Here is a side by side of the various rumored colors <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/41fb0b682e.jpg" alt="">
Move your email service to Switzerland
Since the PRISM revelations, we have seen a handful of "secure" email services shutter their doors or close their email services (Silent Circle, Lavabit, etc). Then came the shutdown of websites dependent on anonymity of sources (Groklaw). With all the turmoil, you may be looking for an email service less likely to bend to the will of the NSA (or other national security agency). I can't think of a better country than Switzerland. The email service recommended by the founder of Groklaw is now offering a less expensive lite of its email service.
41 Megapixel Nokia 1020 coming to Telus
It seems Telus will carry the Windows Phone based Nokia 1020 smartphone. It is the first new Windows Phone to be sold by the carrier since the Nokia Lumia 800 in 2012. It is expected that Telus will carry other Nokia Lumia models including the 625. The Nokia Lumia is also coming to Rogers in October so it will be interesting to see how they compete with this device. For those that don't know, the Lumia 1020 is a smartphone with an incredible 41 megapixel camera.
iPhone 5C Spy pics at Pegatron
Although these can be fake, a quick investigation tends to support the fact that these were talen from the Pegatron plant in Shanghai. The Sina Weibo post says this was an employee working in quality control and thus we get this pic that shows devices charging in preparation for testing. <img src="https://ekiledjian2.micro.blog/uploads/2025/9910e86171.jpg" alt=""> Everything should be revealed at the September 10 launch so we won't have to speculate much longer. The best way to run Android apps on a Windows PC
I wrote about [Bluestack](http://www.kiledjian.com/main/2012/12/7/run-any-android-app-on-your-windows-or-mac-computer.html) and how they provide a beta emulation software that allows you to run some Android software on a Windows or Mac PC. Emulation is good when you don't have any other option but now a team of Chinese developers from [Socketeq](http://www.socketeq.com/) has pushed their Android on Windows just a little bit further. Instead of using emulation which is slower and more limiting, they have created a system where Android runs on top of the Windows kernel (without emulation).
Caffeinated sugar is here
Jacked Up Caffeinated Baking Sugar is the next step for caffeine addicts. Now all of your favorite baked goods can deliver a constant dose of stimulating caffeine to keep you going (muffins, cookies, breads, etc). 1 tsp of the caffein laden sugar delivers 46 mg of caffeine. This is about a third of the caffeine dose you would get from a standard cup of commercial coffee. Keeping this comparison in mind, decide how much of a kick you want from your morning muffin.
